Welcome Music and Poetry Aficionados!

“I introduce my work as a multi-keyed attempt to reach out
to veteran listeners of classical music, to those who appreciate
poetry, and to those who have not been greatly exposed, or have
allowed themselves to plunge deeply into both forms of art.

"Brett, I know you're being bold. Go for it.
Indeed you have something important to share..."

-Dedicated to-

Sonata no.5 in Gm, Op. 10 no.1

It took more sheets to pen it out

Than the world did listen (or does now)
To a brethren soul,
Rapturous and demanding
Of a world
Where bombs whistle
Louder than music

Bombs or music,
It was not Beethoven's choice,
To compose or join the military

However; he was a five star general - of - sounds:
Trigger-happy with notes,
Carrying an arsenal of ideas pounding in him;
And ready to blast notions of "shouldness",
So that we may gain musical ground

The commander that he was,
Shows how he cared for each soldier-note;
Planned and plotted
For the listener
To make it through "battle" fields of sound

How he was able to be in a (private's) note's shoes;
Drill with heartbeats,
And tactfully explode
The melody--then
Take us off the "field"

"Machine-gun Beethoven" he could be called:
A master of sudden rapid - fire - notes,
Able to crush internal chattering, in less than a measure

He was also a master scherzo swords-man,
Capable of ambushing a heart, at will;
But also a tender, but pouncing cat at the keys,
Making listener's purr

He, like Alexander the Great, was out to spread a
   message:
Music, like life, is not all pretty and
Music IS Equal to the sounds of politicians' pens

As a master-sergeant of interpreting human plights,
He sought to instill in us, sustain in us,
A need to let go and HEAR
Music
As ammunition
To connect us and
Help us through a day

 “Beethoven’s piano sonatas were not, to my knowledge, written to be playing with a recitation of poetry. However, I have no doubt that in private some folks, when listening have been inspired to write poetry. From my research, those listening to Beethoven’s music and to other (classical) composers have felt compelled to engage in a variety of activities, including painting, dancing, writing and sculpting. As a former member of the Beethoven Society in New York, I once observed a painter addressing a canvas during a chamber music performance. I know there were reasons in Beethoven’s time, and for the most part it is still so, those listeners are not “permitted” to move from their seats when listening to classical music. Over the years, with some sonatas and in certain passages, I have been so moved that I had to move about and dance.”
